Senior Associate
Bio

Kasey Dunton has practiced exclusively family law since 2016, both with firms and as a sole-practitioner. He has been a practicing attorney for 15 years, and has been exclusively practicing family law for 7 years. Kasey handles all aspects of a variety of family law issues, including custody and visitation, division of both low- and high-asset property portfolios, child and spousal support orders and modification, pre-marital and post-marital agreements, guardianships, and appeals.

Experience and Background

Kasey was born and raised in northeast Ohio. After graduating from the George Washington University at age 19, he attended the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. While there, he served as a student-attorney in the school’s nationally-ranked legal clinic that helped low-income families access the family law system. Upon becoming an attorney in Maryland and the District of Columbia, he spent 5 years representing employees who had faced discrimination at work. These two experiences helped him realize that, at its best, the legal profession can help people who otherwise feel like they are losing the life that they envisioned for themselves.

In 2016, seeking a change in scenery, Kasey moved to the Bay Area and returned to his roots in family law.

Approach

Kasey works with clients to help them decide what the next phase in their life is going to look like. Often, this means helping clients and their former partners reach agreements that everyone can accept. By tailoring creative solutions to each family, families can regain more control over the outcome of the case. However, when mediation fails or is simply not right for the client’s needs, Kasey is not afraid to take the matter to court. He has litigated more than a dozen trials, half of them as first chair. He has presented winning arguments before California’s Fifth and Sixth Courts of Appeal and continues to raise novel legal arguments to help his clients receive everything that the law allows.
