Jane Migachyov (formerly Jane Aceituno) was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Central Valley. She went to the East Coast for her education, graduating cum laude from Harvard College. Her undergraduate thesis was nominated for the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize for outstanding scholarly work. Pursuing a desire to do public interest work, Jane attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, receiving a Masters in Public Policy. Her Master’s thesis received the Manny C. Carballo Memorial Prize for best thesis dealing with social policy issues. Jane completed her education on the East Coast at Boston University, where she received a Juris Doctor degree.
After graduating from law school, Jane was admitted to the bar in 2005 and practiced in general civil litigation for six years in the Bay Area before starting her career in family law. She values helping families traverse the difficult waters of family law litigation. She is a vigorous advocate for her clients and fights for the things that mean the most in her client’s lives, like their children. Jane has experience with every stage of a case from the initial intake to trial. She works in every aspect of family law except for adoptions; she drafts pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and she is one of the few attorneys who litigates Marvin actions.
Jane is passionate about advocacy in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, serving four years as a committee member of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Advisory Committee, San Francisco Human Rights Commission, serving on the Board of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club and Freedom from Tobacco, an LGBT anti-smoking group. She is a member of the LGBTQI Chamber of Commerce – the Golden Gate Business Association. She serves on the Board of Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF), the nation’s oldest and largest association of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQI) persons in the field of law. She also served on the Board of the Harvard Gender & Sexuality Caucus, Harvard’s LGBTQI alumni organization from 2018-2020.
Additionally, Jane values helping people have access to the legal system. She worked as a mentor at the Bayview/Hunters Point Community Legal Clinic, providing guidance in family law cases. She has done pro bono family law work through the Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco. Finally, she has volunteered for Legal Aid at Work.
Jane provides outstanding legal representation. I have relied on her legal expertise to help me navigate my divorce and family matters for 5+ years. Jane provides sound advice and clear direction at crucial times. She defends my children's best interests with sound, reliable professional judgment. Her compassion, diligence, and knowledge combined with the expertise of her legal team are comforting during difficult times. Having such quality legal representation, has given me great peace of mind. Jane is someone you want on your team. She is an excellent lawyer.
Jane is very professional and knows the law by heart. I have valued and greatly appreciated her legal advice and support. Every divorce is difficult, but I also dealt with an abusive spouse. He had to be removed from my home by domestic violence restraining order. He had depleted all my savings, put me in a lot of debt and I was broke. He then sued me for spousal support and interest in my home, which I owned before I met him. The stress of not having enough cash and to increase my credit card debt to pay for legal costs, and in addition potential spousal support, put me into a dark and scared frame of mind. Jane has been kind and supportive to keep me sane during the long process of the divorce. When I felt only despair Jane assured me that I will fine in the end, and I was.
When I first came to Jane for help I have to admit I was unsure what was going to happen. My case took nearly 3 years, Jane and her team did an amazing job right from the get go. She was there for me throughout the process. Always took my calls and emails even when she had other cases to work on. I never felt like I didn’t understand my case because of her hard work. It also showed me that she treats all her clients like this and that’s an amazing feeling. I would definitely recommend Jane and her team to anyone in the same situation.
